Intro
My goal with Substack is to give you practical advice you can use to start and implement into your business, and to share my personal story and updates in my business to show you that Amazon FBA can change your situation like it has changed mine.
My Journey into Amazon
I started my business in 2018 by going to thrift stores and selling items like vcrs, dvd players, books, DVDs, toys and games. I dabbled in RA with major sales and liquidation, and had a short run flipping textbooks purchased on Amazon during the beginning of the year and summer semesters. I did this part time for 4 years making an extra 20k a year on the side.
It wasn’t until I joined twitter and found out about online arbitrage that my idea of what was possible on Amazon changed. Seeing other sellers make 10, 20, 30k per month was eye opening.
I was working a job in financial planning in an office 5 days a week, working long days under a lot of stress making 80k a year. I hated my job and started thinking online arbitrage might be my way out.
After doing research for a month I started getting products sent to my apartment from online retailers and shipping boxes into Amazon July 2022. I had proof of concept and decided to take a leap and go full time with Amazon in August 2022.
I made 1k my first month, had very little capital to start with, and knew I had to make substantially more to support myself. I don’t recommend doing this, but it forced me to work my ass off at first, make mistakes fast, and double down on what worked.
After shipping hundreds of products from my third story apartment, befriending the UPS and FedEx guys, and filling my apartment full of products, I made almost 10k by November, and 18k net profit per month by December. I had proof of concept and knew I could make more than the job I had just left.
I say this to tell you that if you’re willing to work hard you can make this kind of money with Arbitrage on Amazon. For me, it’s not as much about the money, but the flexibility and freedom the business gives me. I no longer have a boss breathing down my neck, have more time to spend with my wife and friends, and enjoy my day to day much more.
Find Your Why
It's important when starting a business to figure out your "Why" to keep you on track when you have difficult problems to solve or bad days.
Do you want extra money to spend on the side?
To take your family on an extra vacation or two each year?
More time with your family?
More money for investments?
The beauty of Amazon is that anyone can start an account, buy some inventory and start selling products within a week. You can make it a side hustle if you’re looking for an extra 1-2k a month, or scale it to the moon and make full time money.
If I can do this, you absolutely can, and the only difference between you and the seller you want to be is time, effort, and capital. Amazon has changed my life and I hope to help inspire you to change yours.
I'm still working on what the format of the newsletter will be, but I ultimately want this to be a place where existing sellers can learn more about selling on Amazon, and new sellers have a guide for what it takes to start this business, and get a realistic idea of what's possible.
